Michigan and Penn State Claim Weekly Wrestling Honors

Wrestler of the Week
Mitchell Mesenbrink, Penn State
165 pounds – So. – Hartland, Wis. – Arrowhead

  • Rolled to the 2024 Black Knight Invitational title at 165 pounds, going 4-0, all by technical fall, with two of his wins against ranked opponents and a pair of Big Ten foes
  • Posted technical falls over Carter Baer of Binghamton, 18-3 (5:37), Cam Adams of Michigan State, 18-1 (4:01), No. 32 Tony White of Rutgers, 19-4 (5:46) and No. 14 Gunner Filipowicz of Army in the finals, 17-2 (4:50)
  • Named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler for his performance
  • Last Penn State Wrestler of the Week: Beau Bartlett (Feb. 14, 2024)

Freshman of the Week
Brock Mantanona, Michigan
157/165 pounds – Bermuda Dunes, Calif. – Palm Desert

  • Earned his second straight bonus win over a ranked opponent in Michigan's 29-12 dual victory against Virginia
  • Defeated No. 12 Nick Hamilton, 11-3, with three takedowns and 1:11 riding-time advantage
  • Improved to 6-1 on the season and has earned bonus points in all six of his wins
  • Earns Michigan’s first Freshman of the Week honor
